ICx Researcher Recognized in the MIT Technology Review’s Prestigious TR35 Listing of the World’s Top Young Innovators for 2008

ICx researcher Aimee Rose named Humanitarian of the Year for advancing ability to detect explosives.

WASHINGTON (Aug. 19, 2008) — ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT), a developer of advanced sensor technologies for homeland security, force protection and commercial applications, announced today that one of its scientists, Aimee Rose, Ph.D., has been recognized by Technology Review magazine as one of the world’s top innovators under the age of 35 for advancing state-of-the-art in explosives detection.

Because the nature of Rose’s work contributes to the safety of millions of people, she was also named Humanitarian of the Year.

Selected from more than 300 nominees by a panel of expert judges and the editorial staff of Technology Review the TR35 is an elite group of accomplished young innovators who exemplify the spirit of innovation.

Rose designs materials and devices to detect explosives traces that other instruments cannot see because they do not have the requisite sensitivity. By employing the chemistry of each explosive analyte, ICx creates materials that offer specificity at the molecular level. In the world of chemical sensors, this emerging approach is an effective way to achieve the sensitivity necessary to detect vapor plumes from explosives, similar to the way a dog sniffs out bombs.

“The TR35 honors young innovators for accomplishments that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world as we know it,” said Jason Pontin, editor in chief and publisher of Technology Review magazine. “We celebrate their success and look forward to their continued advancement of technology in their respective fields.”

Aimee Rose and the other TR35 winners for 2008 will be featured in the September issue of Technology Review magazine and honored at EmTech08 Conference to be held at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. September 23-25, 2008.

“Aimee is a remarkably talented and driven individual who is furthering the state of the art in explosive detection,” said Colin Cumming, ICx Technologies chief technology officer. “We are proud to call unique and talented people such as Aimee part of the ICx family. They are our key asset, and we do our best to provide them with the right environment so innovation flourishes.”
