Sugar Bowl Committee Donates SkyWatch Tower to New Orleans Police Department

NEW ORLEANS, LA The donation was made during a special presentation at the Sugar Bowl's 75th Anniversary Kickoff Celebration, which was held Sept. 18th at the Louisiana Superdome. The SkyWatch will be put to use immediately by the NOPD, which already has four units in use.

"The Sugar Bowl appreciates the work the New Orleans Police Department has done with our games over the past 75 years, and never more so than last year when we hosted two games in one week's time, bringing almost 120,000 out-of-town visitors into the city," Sugar Bowl President Ronnie Burns said.

"The NOPD has consistently helped the Sugar Bowl deliver a safe environment for fans from across the country, and that's one major reason they keep coming back to New Orleans year after year," Burns added.

The SkyWatch Sentinel is a mobile surveillance tower that provides a line of sight greater than that of a two-story roof-line. It can be placed almost anywhere it is needed, and is the preeminent crowd control tool for law enforcement officials across the U.S.

"We would like to thank the Sugar Bowl Committee for getting behind the badge and donating this SkyWatch Tower. It is tremendous asset used in many, many ways for special events such as Mardi Gras, Saints games, French Quarter coverage and Sugar Bowls, to name a few," said Chief Warren J. Riley, Superintendent of Police. "We encourage others to follow the Sugar Bowl's lead and get behind the badge."
