ICx Technologies Inks $12 Million Contract with CALTRANS
WASHINGTON (Oct. 15, 2008) — ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT), a technology and sensor company focused on the detection, security, and transportation markets, announced today that it has been awarded a $12 million contract to construct, integrate and maintain a leading-edge, fog-detection and warning system for the Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) along the Highway 99 corridor in central California.
ICx will be deploying visibility sensors, speed detectors, and cameras to detect congestion and visibility problems that could affect driver and passenger safety. Upon completion of the entire project, the system will be alerting motorists (automatically, through intelligence built into ICx’s Cameleon ITS product) via changeable message signs, highway-advisory radio, by dialing 511 on a phone, and through the web and web-based utilities.
“This contract award brings together several ICx business units, and we are pleased to assist CALTRANS in their extraordinary efforts to assist its motorists when they confront hazardous driving conditions,” said Hans Kobler, CEO and president of ICx. “This is our transportation group’s third win in the past two months, and it strongly validates our team’s efforts and their innovative technological applications.”
The system will be deployed along 12 miles of Highway 99, in Fresno and Tulare counties; work will begin immediately and continue through 2009.
