ICx Technologies Awarded S.A.F.E.T.Y. Act Designation By Department of Homeland Security
ICx Technologies, a provider of advanced technology solutions for homeland and military security, announced today that is has been approved for coverage by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (SAFETY) Act of 2002. Under this approval, the Fido® Portable Explosives Detector has been designated as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology (ATT). The Fido is developed and distributed by ICx Nomadics, a business unit of ICx Technologies.
According to DHS, the SAFETY Act provides critical framework to encourage both entrepreneurs and established manufacturers to develop and deploy technologies necessary to protect America from terrorist attacks. The SAFETY Act designation is intended to support effective technologies that will prevent, detect, identify or deter acts of terrorism or mitigate the harm that such acts might otherwise cause.
"We are thrilled to have our Fido Explosives Detector awarded the SAFETY Act designation," says Colin Cumming, chief technology officer of ICx Technologies. "For the past six years we have focused our research and development efforts in explosives detection on helping and protecting the warfighter in forward military locations. It is very gratifying to have this work acknowledged by the Department of Homeland Security."
Under SAFETY Act designation, qualifying Anti-Terrorism Technologies are provided liability protection from "claims arising out of, relating to or resulting from an act of terrorism."
