ICx Technologies Co-Founder and Chairman to Speak at SPIE Defense & Security Symposium
Mark Mills to Lead Executive Forum on Defense and Homeland Security Technology Innovation
ICx Technologies, a developer of advanced technology solutions for homeland and military security, will play a key role in the Defense & Security Symposium to be hosted by SPIE in Orlando April 9-13. SPIE is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light.
Mark P. Mills, co-founder and chairman of the board of ICx Technologies, will anchor the symposium’s Executive Forum with his presentation “The Next Tech Boom: Innovation, Megatrends, and Money Flow.” Mills’s 40-minute presentation will be followed by an interactive panel discussion involving experts from the U.S. government, academia and the private sector.
"The whole concept of security as we know it changed dramatically with 9/11," said Mills. "American government agencies, universities, and businesses have made laudable progress completing the paradigm shift from a Cold War orientation to a mindset that addresses current and emerging realities, but national and homeland security require more technology and policy innovation to ensure delivery of the security solutions demanded by the 21st Century."
The Executive Forum will be held on April 10, 6-8:30 p.m. Mills will be joined on the discussion panel by Dr. John Carrano, vice president, Research and Development, Luminex Corporation; Maj. Gen. Stephen Reeves, USA, Joint Program Executive Officer for Chemical and Biological Defense, U.S. Department of Defense; Dr. Lynne Zydowsky, president and managing principal, Zydowsky Consultants; Dr. Allen Northrup, founder, president and CEO, MicroFluidic Systems, Inc.; and Dr. C. Kumar Patel, Pranalytica, Inc., and Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California/Los Angeles. More information on the symposium can be found at spie.org/events/dss.
In addition to his role at ICx, Mark Mills serves as a founding partner of Digital Power Capital LLC, a Wexford Capital fund. Mills is also co-author of The Bottomless Well: The Twilight of Fuel, the Virtue of Waste, and Why We Will Never Run Out of Energy, (Basic Books, 2005, paperback 2006). Earlier he founded and ran an energy technology consulting firm and served as a staff consultant to President Reagan's White House Science Office.
