ICx Technologies Awarded Robotic Systems Joint Program Office Contract to Supply Explosives Detection Systems

Award is valued up to $28 Million for Supply of Fido Explosives Detection Technology for Warfighter Field Use, Training and Simulation

ICx Technologies has been awarded a contract by the Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in support of the Robotic Systems Joint Project Office (RS JPO) to supply its Fido® Explosives Detectors. Under the Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, ICx Nomadics, a business unit of ICx Technologies, will provide up to $25 million in product supply, $1.5 million in maintenance and repairs, and $1.5 million in training support over five years.

The ICx Fido Explosives Detector, which is well-suited to both handheld and robot-integrated applications, will provide the versatility needed to meet stringent explosives detection requirements and accelerate the deployment of safe, accurate and reliable explosives detectors in the field. The Fido will be used by the RS JPO, for deployment in robotically mounted applications and in training programs run through Project Manager Training Devices (PM TRADE), the Army's solution provider for instrumented training systems. The handheld version, Fido XT can also be procured through this funding mechanism.

"Providing the tools to prepare our warfighters for dealing with explosives is vital to safety on the battle field," said Hans Kobler, CEO, ICx Technologies. "ICx is committed to offering the most advanced detection technologies and training support that keep troops and civilians safe in war zones."

The handheld Fido can rapidly and accurately detect trace amounts of explosive residue on surfaces, in vehicles and on a person's skin, making it ideal for field and checkpoint situations. Fido can also be incorporated onto mobile, robotic platforms to form a unit capable of searching for explosive devices, then disarming those devices by utilizing the robot's on-board capabilities, effectively removing soldiers from harm's way.
