ICx™ Mesosystems Wins R&D 100 Award for AirSentinel® Sensor
MesoSystems, an ICx company, is a 2006 R&D 100 award winner. The R&D 100 independent review panel considers new technology product innovations from around the globe and selects the 100 most significant achievements. The MesoSystems AirSentinel biological threat sensor is among this year's award recipients.
As a part of the ICx Detection division, MesoSystems is a leader in the development of biological agent sensors. The AirSentinel is a highly sensitive, continuously operating sensor that detects potentially harmful airborne biological threats. Since biological threats are not detectable by human senses, aerosolized threats may incubate and spread unbeknownst to those who inhale the threat. Rather than wait for those exposed to exhibit symptoms, the AirSentinel enables near-real-time detection. This early warning enables remediation that can limit both illness and facilities contamination to take place. Functionally similar to a smoke-alarm, AirSentinel is an affordable approach to biological threat detection.
"The new threats facing the world today require new thinking," says Hans Kobler, CEO of ICx Technologies. "The AirSentinel is just one of a wide range of detection technologies innovated at ICx that provide the accuracy necessary for use in the real world."
"The R&D 100 Award affirms that our company is creating an important and meaningful product," explained Ezra Merrill, MesoSystems, Director of Sales and Marketing. "I would like to acknowledge our DARPA and DTRA sponsors who have guided the development of this unique sensor technology," concluded Merrill.
